Ayurvedic uses :-

The effects of the herb are not entirely known. Gymnema reduces the taste of sugar when it is placed in the mouth. From extract of the leaves were isolated glycosides known as gymnemic acids, which exhibit anti-sweet activity.

Madhunashini “destroys” the sensation of sweet. But more than that, it has a beneficial effect on the management of blood sugar too, and hence it’s widespread use in Ayurveda and alternative medicine for the treatment of diabetes and some other ailments.
